The surface of Gabba is under the scanner since the dramatic end of the first Test between Australia and South Africa. The match ended up only on the second day as Pat Cummins & co. sealed a six-wicket win against the visitors. Although, Australians are continuously gaining the end of harsh criticism from the cricketing fraternity and experts of the game as well.
In a recent line of events, former Indian cricketer Reetinder Sodhi has slammed the unnecessarily very green turf that the hosts prepared for the first Test against India.
Sodhi feels that one can’t test the quality of a bowler on such kinds of surfaces. He added that even a normal bowler can make the ball seem on that much green wicket.
That doesn't help anyone judge the true quality of a bowler - Reetinder Singh Sodhi
"It is not a great exhibition for Test cricket if you're using the pitch to get wickets. Even a normal bowler can make the ball seam on such a green pitch. That doesn't help anyone judge the true quality of a bowler. So personally, Test matches should go on for 4-5 days and the wicket has to play a really crucial role,” said Sodhi during a conversation with India News.
Later on, Sodhi also talked about the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia next year in the month of February.
"The series against Australia will be a hard-fought one. However, we do have the arsenal in our bowling to dominate the opposition. Kuldeep Yadav's performance has simply been brilliant. This has now given us three quality frontline spinners, who bowl with venom and who also can be rotated if you want to add an extra seamer. So, we definitely have the resources,” he added later.
Currently, the Indian team is in action against Bangladesh during the ongoing two-match Test series. The second and last of the three-match Test series will commence on the 22nd of December at the Sher-E-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
