The 11th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) took place between Dambulla Aura and Jaffna Kings. Kings won the toss and chose to bowl. Aura got off to the worst possible start losing Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis in the first over. Sadeera Samarawickra came at number three and hit 30 off 25 balls with four fours. Kusal Perera made a valuable 41 off 36 balls with three fours.
When they fell to Dunith Wellalage and Shoaib Malik in quick succession, this triggered a mini collapse as Dhananjaya de Silva, Alex Ross and Janith Liyange followed suit and Aura were in a spot of bother at 107-7. But Aura made it to 134-8 in their 20 overs thanks to Hayden Kerr. The Australian hit 25 off 20 balls with two fours and one six.
Shoaib Malik was the best bowler for Jaffna Kings as he picked up 2-13 in his four overs/ Aura did not have the best batting performance but made their way to a fighting score. In the second innings, Kings were rocked early as their top three batters were sent back for just 10 runs on the board.
Hasan Ali took 3-20 off his four overs for Dambulla Aura
While wickets were falling rapidly at the other end, Malik held his own and made a resolute innings of an unbeaten 74 off 53 balls with five fours and six sixes. If Malik did not run out of partners due to a wonderful bowling performance from Aura, he could have got Kings across the line.
But Hasan Ali made the ball talk in his four overs spell as he picked up 3-20 in his four overs. Binura Fernando also bowled a miserly spell of 8 runs in his four overs and picked up the big wicket of Towhid Hirdoy. The only letdown for Aura with the ball was Noor Ahmad as he had an off day taking 1-46 in his four overs.
In the end, Aura stood up when it mattered and won a close contest by 9 runs. The fans would have got their money's worth due to a wonderful game of cricket. Jaffna will face Colombo Strikers next whereas Aura will take on Galle Titans.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:

It sounds like a fantastic day for Pakistani cricket players! Usama Mir's all-round performance in #TheHundred, along with the achievements of Babar Azam, Hasan Ali, Shoaib Malik, and Mohammad Nawaz in #LPL2023, definitely showcases their talent and success on the global stage.
