Recently, it was reported that the Punjab franchise was looking to remove Mayank Agrawal from captaincy for the next season. He was appointed the skipper of the team ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022. The move proved to be a bad one as he failed to contribute with the bat and didn't bring good results for the team either. In the 13 games he played, he could only manage 196 runs.
A source close to the team was reported as saying that the team was planning to remove the Karnataka player from the role and want Mayank to focus on his batting.
“No Mayank is not in plans to lead. He will need to focus on batting. He will be a crucial player for us. As for Anil, we are discussing a few options but nothing has materialized yet. We have time left. We will take a call at the right time,” said a source close to the team was quoted as saying by Sports Tiger.

It will be interesting to see who leads the team if Agarwal gets sacked. Shikhar Dhawan can be an option to lead due to his seniority and experience. It was reported that Jonny Bairstow could also lead the team. However, the Englishman doesn't have prior experience in leading a team at this level. As of now, Mayank Agarwal remains the leader of the ship.
