Preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 have begun, with all 10 franchises reportedly picking up the players they are going to retain for the upcoming season. The Player Auction for the 17th edition of the cash-rich league will be held on December 19 in Dubai - the first to be hosted outside India. Meanwhile, the IPL player Transfer Window is open ahead of the player auction and teams will be making use of it in the coming days.
The Transfer Window for the 2024 season will close on November 24, but the teams have reportedly informed the IPL Governing Council about the list of players they have released ahead of the auction.
In this article, we take a look at the list of players released by Mumbai Indians (MI), one of the most successful franchises in the history of the league. The five-time champions have pocketed 8 crore by releasing just one player - Jofra Archer. The England speedster was bought at the IPL 2022 despite being unavailable for selection for the season due to injury.
The franchise had faith in the right-arm pacer's ability but he failed to repay them in IPL 2023. Archer played only a handful of matches for the Mumbai-based franchise last season and that too failed to make much of an impact. MI's other releases include Arshad Khan, another England pacer Chris Jordan, South African bowler Duan Jansen and young batter Tristan Stubbs.
Here is the full list of players released by the MI and their amount in INR
Jofra Archer - 8 Crore
Chris Jordan - 50 Lakh
Duan Jansen - 20 Lakh
Tristan Stubbs - 20 Lakh
Arshad Khan - 20 Lakh
MI had a disappointing campaign in the 2022 season, finishing last in the points table. However, they bounced back in the following season by making it to the playoffs. Rohit Sharma's team won 8 out of 14 matches and secured 16 points to finish fourth in the points table. They beat Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator but lost against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.
