The player auction for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held on December 19 in Dubai. This is the first time that an IPL auction is being held outside India. Ahead of the much-awaited event, all 10 franchises have reportedly chosen the players they want to retain for the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, the player transfer window is open ahead of the auction and we might see teams making use of it in the coming days. The Transfer Window for the 17th edition of the cash-rich league closes on November 24. However, according to reports, the teams have informed the IPL Governing Council about the list of players released ahead of the auction.
In this article, we take a look at the list of players released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK), one of the most successful franchises in the history of the league. One of the most surprising releases from five-time champions was England's premier all-rounder Ben Stokes. The English Test captain was acquired for a whopping Rs 16.25 crore in the IPL 2023 auction. In fact, he became the third most expensive player in IPL history.
Stokes played only a handful of matches for CSK in the last edition as he failed to live up to expectations. Another notable release was Ambati Rayudu who retired from all forms of cricket after IPL 2023. CSK's other releases include New Zealand all-rounder Kyle Jameson, South African pacer Sisanda Magala, and young Indian players Simranjeet Singh and Sheikh Rasheed.
Here is the full list of players released by the CSK and their amount in INR
Ben Stokes - 16.25 Crore
Ambati Rayudu - 6.75 Crore
Kyle Jameson - 1 Crore
Sisanda Magala - 50 Lakh
Simranjeet Singh - 20 Lakh
Sheikh Rasheed - 20 Lakh
CSK equalled Mumbai Indians' record of lifting the most trophies (5) with a successful IPL 2023 campaign. Under MS Dhoni's leadership, the Chennai-based franchise finished second on the points table. In a last-ball thriller, they defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final to achieve a remarkable victory.
