IPL 2024: Chairman Arun Dhumal reveals start date and likely venue for upcoming season

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has dropped a huge update to the media about the IPL 2024 tournament with the Indian general elections looming large.

Arun Dhumal the chairman of IPL has revealed the start date of the tournament. The 17th season is set to begin on the 22nd of March. Chennai Super Kings are the defending champions having beaten Gujarat Titans in the finals.

In a few months, India is set to witness the 2024 General Elections. Due to this, there could be lots of security issues. The IPL Chairman has also addressed the issue and said how the entire tournament will be played out. 

India is currently playing the Test series against England with two more matches to go. On Friday the second edition of the Women’s Premier League is set to begin. This year the tournament will be held in Bengaluru and New Delhi. The opening match on Friday will witness a rematch of last year’s final between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals

Speaking to the Press Trust of India. Arun Dhumal has said that IPL 2024 will be held in India. According to the IPL Chairman, the entire schedule of the tournament will be out soon. The Indian Election Commission is set to announce the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the 1st week of March. 

“We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are closely working with the government agencies and we will release the first schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India”

South Africa hosted the event when India went for elections in 2009. In 2014 the first half of the tournament was shifted to the UAE while the second half was played in India. in 2019, the entire tournament was played in India with a few centres getting to host the games in succession.

The likes of Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni are back at the nets ahead of the new season. The former Gujarat Titans skipper will be leading Mumbai Indians during the season. The entire captaincy change hasn’t gone down well with a lot of Mumbai Indians fans. This is set to be the last season for MS Dhoni in the top flight as he is set to retire from cricket at the end of the IPL.
