Axar Patel, an Indian all-rounder, was recently identified by Indian cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar as the ideal candidate for the captaincy of the Delhi Capitals, one of the teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Australian cricketer David Warner is currently in charge of the squad in the IPL 2023. Still, many cricket experts have criticised his captaincy, particularly since the group lost its first five games. Axar Patel, on the other hand, has been constantly producing strong bowling and batting performances and has displayed outstanding leadership skills as the Delhi Capitals' vice-captain.

Recent performances by Axar Patel have been excellent. On April 24, during the Delhi Capitals' final match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, he scored 34 runs, claimed two wickets, and allowed just 21 runs in his four-over performance. David Warner's strike rate is at 119 despite playing seven games and scoring 306 runs for the Delhi Capitals, while his total strike rate in the IPL 2023 is an excellent 135. Sunil Gavaskar thinks Axar Patel is the best person to manage the Delhi Capitals because of his integrity, smooth rhythm, and superb play. He also feels Axar should be given a chance to succeed in the long run because of his leadership qualities for the Indian squad.

'He is an honest player in a good rhythm' – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports Cricket Live, "I believe Axar Patel should be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He's in a good rhythm. The Indian team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise and performing well. All these things should be done in a long run."

Axar Patel has been outstanding in international cricket, particularly against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He hit 264 runs and passed Virat Kohli as the second-highest run-scorer in the four-match Test series. Axar Patel underlined his belief in his batting abilities and desire to be consistent and carry forward his form in an interview after being named Man of the Match in DC's victory over SRH.
