Since the Indian Premier League (IPL) was officially announced in 2008, Indian cricket has advanced significantly. It has dramatically changed how we previously viewed the format and has given many young people in the country a chance to establish themselves. Fans of the country celebrate the extravagant event like a festival and lavishly display their love for their favourite franchises.
Similarly, the competing cricketers strive to provide their utmost effort and put up impressive displays. The elite league has always valued everybody's accomplishments, and they have been recognised for their thrilling performances. Orange Cap, Purple Cap, Player of the Match, Game-Changing Moment, Player of the Series, Emerging Player of the Year, Fair Play Award, Maximum Sixes Award, and Most Valuable Player, among others, are notable examples of honours that are given in the league.
Orange Cap – IPL Batters' dream
The batters receive the Orange Cap, one of the most prestigious awards in the competition. A batter gets this honour every season for amassing the most runs in the lucrative T20 league. Notably, a player up for the award wears a temporary orange cap while fielding throughout the competition.
The award is formally given during the post-match presentation of the league's championship game, and it rotates till the very conclusion of the campaign. Brendon McCullum, a former great batter for New Zealand, was the first player to receive the orange cap, while Shaun Marsh was the first to take home the trophy in the inaugural IPL.
Several elite players, including Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle, have received the IPL Orange Cap. David Warner is the only player with three Orange Caps in 2015, 2017, and 2019. While "The Universe Boss," Chris Gayle, in his IPL career, has twice won the Orange Cap in 2011 and 2012.
Australia's Shaun Marsh, then 24 years old, was the only uncapped player ever to win the accolade. Virat Kohli set an IPL record by scoring 973 runs in a single season, making him the batter with the highest runs scored among Orange Cap holders (in a single season) with four thunderous tonnes.
