Australia will begin their South Africa tour on 30 August 2023 as they will play a three-match T20I series. Already, they suffered setbacks ahead of this tour as Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Steve Smith are set to miss it due to injuries. Now, they suffered another setback as Glenn Maxwell gets ruled out of the T20I series due to an ankle injury.

He aggravated the injury during Australia's first training session in Durban. Now, the veteran wicketkeeper, Matthew Wade is going to join the squad as a replacement for him. Maxwell was already set to miss the ODI series as he was scheduled to fly back home for the birth of his first child. Hence, fans shared their views regarding this news on social media.

Australia selector Tony Dodemaide claimed that it’s a precautionary approach in order to monitor Maxwell’s recovery ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He said: "We are taking a precautionary approach, given Glenn was heading home next week in any case. We will monitor Glenn's recovery with a view to him being available for the three-match ODI series in India in advance of the World Cup."

Wade last played in T20Is in November 2022 during the 20-20 World Cup. As of now, he has played 75 matches in the shortest format. In 57 innings, he has scored 1018 runs with a strike rate of 132.03. Meanwhile, in recent times, many players like 

Earlier while talking about injuries related to Smith and Starc, the national selection panel chair George Bailey said: "With the World Cup the priority of the squad, it was determined on advice that it was best for Steve and Mitchell to join the group in India by which time we expect them to be fully fit and available for the Indian ODI series, plus the World Cup warm-up fixture."
