Meanwhile, the Indian selectors also announced the Indian squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand followed by the T20I series having the same number of matches. There are a few names in the Indian team who are currently in action during the series against Sri Lanka but they will not be a part of the men in blue for the series against the Kiwis.
Here we’ll have a look at five Indian players who are in the squad of the series against Sri Lanka but would not be seen in the next assignment against the Blackcaps:
1. KL Rahul
The senior wicketkeeper-batter was enduring a poor run of form with the bat since the 20-20 World Cup 2022. He also failed to live up to the expectations in both the Test and ODI series against Bangladesh. In the ongoing series against the Islanders, KL Rahul is batting in the middle-order and has played two good knocks in the first and second ODI against Dasun Shanaka’s men.
But the 30-year-old batter is not selected for the squad for the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand. The Indian Cricket Board stated in their official announcement that the Karnataka batter would not be available due to some personal and family commitments.
2. Axar Patel
Axar Patel played a crucial role in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. He won the ‘players of the series' award for his brilliant performances throughout the entire T20I series. He is also playing in the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka.
But interestingly, the fans are confused after the decision of selectors to not pick Axar in the squad of team India for the ODIs against New Zealand. The 28-year-old would have played a vital role against the Kiwi batters.
3. Suryakumar Yadav
The star Indian batting sensation and World number one T20I batter Suryakumar Yadav amazed everyone with his brilliant excellence. SKY smashed his third T20I century during the third and last of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The 32-year-old played a crucial role in India’s T20I series win.
Although he was also picked in the Indian squad for three-match ODI series but could not make it to the playing XI of the team in the first and second ODI. Apart from that, now he has been omitted from team India’s squad for the ODIs against NZ. The fans are also speculating if he is dropped or rested from the.
4. Ishan Kishan
The young batter Ishan Kishan brought a new sensation in the cricketing fraternity when he smashed the fastest double ton in the history of ODI cricket. Ishan achieved this feat during the third and last ODI against Bangladesh in Chattogram. The 24-year-old played a swashbuckling knock of 210 runs off just 132 balls.
But surprisingly, the Indian team management didn’t pick him in the playing XI of the first two ODIs against Sri Lanka even after having him in the squad. Furthermore, in a turnaround of events, Ishan will not be a part of the squad for the ODI fixtures against New Zealand.
5. Arshdeep Singh
The 23-year-old pacer attracted the headlines with his brilliant bowling in the T20I cricket. Recently, Arshdeep made it to the wrong side of the headlines when he happened to ball a lot of consecutive no-balls in the ODI series. He was also on the receiving end of anger from the skipper Hardik Pandya.
But interestingly, he will not be a part of the squad of the men in blue for the upcoming three-match ODI series against New Zealand.
