Rajasthan were brilliant during the Indian T20 League 2022. Despite not being able to win the title, they made it to the final, and impressed one and all. Several of their players were absolutely dominant throughout the tournament. As a matter of fact, the 2008-champions finished second during the league stage of the tournament.
However, Rajasthan's all-rounder Riyan Parag wasn't really able to set the stage on fire. He failed to consistently score runs. The youngster was only able to score one half-century in the 2022 edition. Having said that, he only batted in the lower-middle order, and seldom got any time to settle.
Thus, Rajasthan's director of cricket Kumar Sangakkara spoke about giving more opportunities at the top of the order. He drew light on Parag's immense potential, and spoke about grooming him to become an early middle-order player. Sangakkara also highlighted that his game against spin is as good as his game against pace.
“Riyan Parag has got a huge amount of potential. We have to work him into a higher batting number next season. I look forward to grooming him to become more of an early middle-order player rather than just a death-overs hitter because he is so accomplished against spin as well as pace,” said Kumar Sangakkara in a virtual post-match press conference.
In the meanwhile, he also spoke about Ravichandran Ashwin, and appreciated his performances for the Rajasthan-based franchise in this edition. It is to be noted that the offie picked 12 wickets at an economy rate of 7.51. Besides, he was superb with the bat as well. Ashwin scored 191 runs in 12 innings at an average and strike rate of 27.29 and 141.48 respectively. Moreover, he was used as a floater, and batted in the top-order during several games this season.
“Ash has done a great job for us, but even he, being a legend in what he has achieved on the pitch, there will be a lot of improvements and thinking to do, especially with his off-spinners and to bowl more of it," added Sangakkara.
