Amidst all the frenzy around the fifteenth edition of the Indian T20 league, the availability of overseas players was still unclear. Owing to their international commitments, individuals from different countries were unsure about being available for the entire 2022 edition.
However, in what comes as positive news for all the fans, most of the cricket boards, including the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), have given the green signal for their players' participation in the biggest T20 league in the world. This edition is slated to start in March. With the addition of two new teams, the Indian T20 league is expected to be longer.
As England are all set to host New Zealand for a Test series in June, there was an uncertainty regarding players from the two countries being available for the knockout games. However, according to a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI recently said that the English and Kiwi players would be available for the entire tournament. It is to be noted that this Test series between the two sides, which is a part of the World Test Championship (WTC), starts on June 2.
"After the IPL, the ECB is committed to starting the 1st WTC Test Match v New Zealand on 2 June, 2022. The player availability for all the ECB players will be through to Sunday, 29 May, 2022," the BCCI has informed all the franchises ahead of the mega-auction, which will be taking place on February 12 and 13.
As for the availability of the Australian players, it is a bit tricky as their series against Pakistan is scheduled to end on April 5. Cricket Australia also laid stress about the participation of other Australian players in the Sheffield Shield, which ends in early April.
"The State players whose team does not qualify for the Sheffield Shield Final will be available from March 27," the BCCI mail notes adding, "State player whose team qualifies for the Sheffield Shield Final will be available from 5, April." The Sheffield Shield final is from March 31 to April 4. In the meanwhile, players from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh won't be available from May 11 to 23 because of their two-Test match series.
