The min auctions for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League are just around the corner. The teams are now preparing their strategies for the auction room. The teams might let go of some of their players ahead of the auction. In this article, we will look at some of the players that the Chennai-based team may be able to release.
1. Ravindra Jadeja
There have been many rumours of a rift between Ravindra Jadeja and the Chennai team management. There also have been multiple reports of the star all-rounder wanting to quit the team and look for another franchise in the cash-rich league.
The rumours took a leap when Jadeja was stripped of his captaincy duties only to hand it back to the previous captain, MS Dhoni. Jadeja could be released by the team management ahead of the next season amidst their rumoured rift.
2. Chris Jordan
The pacer from England, Chris Jordan, was an expensive 3.6 crore buy for Chennai last season. However, his injury prevented him from playing a few of the matches in the Indian T20 League 2022. In addition, he did not capitalize on the few chances in the season.
The 34-year-old only took two wickets in the four appearances he made in the season. The team management might release him ahead of the next season to try and target someone else, who can consistently perform well for the team.
3. Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube was another expensive purchase for the Chennai team last season. They paid 4 crores to get the all-rounder in the auction. He was impressive in the initial stages of the tournament but that dwindled quickly as the tournament progressed.
In the first half of the competition, the left-handed batter had some good numbers with the bat to back him up, but he had a terrible run with the ball. Dube conceded runs at an economy rate of 18 in the two overs that he bowled. He might be released ahead of the next season.
4. Tushar Deshpande
Tushar Deshpande was expected to be a young gun for the Chennai team last season. However, he did not get many opportunities to represent the team in the competition. He only played two games in the 2022 season and did not deliver.
The 27-year-old wore the yellow jersey in two games last season but did not fare well. He picked up only a sole wicket and conceded runs at an economy rate of 9. He, too, might be let go ahead of the mini auctions.
5. Narayan Jagadeesan
Based on his domestic performances, Narayan Jagadeesan has been a fixture in the Chennai team setup for many years. However, he has not had many opportunities to take the field with the team. He has only played seven matches in the tournament.
Last season, the wicketkeeper-batter was trusted to play a couple of matches for Chennai, but he failed to deliver. He might finally be let go of in the next season to make room for someone else in the squad.
