Fans were treated to an absolute cracker of a contest on Monday. The 30th match of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Rajasthan beat Kolkata by seven runs. It was raining sixes at the Brabourne Stadium as players on both sides were hitting the big shots for fun. However, despite all the fireworks, the Kolkata-based franchise would certainly be disappointed over not winning the game.
The first innings saw Jos Buttler play an absolute gem of a knock. He went on to score his second hundred of the Indian T20 league 2022. While he scored 103 from 61 balls, he hit nine boundaries and six sixes respectively. He took the aggressive route from ball one and showed no mercy on the Kolkata bowlers.
Rajasthan scored 60 runs in the first six overs. The Englishman joined hands with his skipper Sanju Samson to put on a 66-run partnership. The Kerala batter played some eye-pleasing shots as he went on to score a 19-ball 38. Post his dismissal, it was Shimron Hetmyer who joined Buttler. As a matter of fact, it was the Windies batter who ensured that the 2008-champions don't run out of fuel after Buttler's dismissal. He scored 26 runs in just 13 balls. At the end, the Rajasthan-based franchise scored 217-5 in the first innings.
In reply, Kolkata lost Sunil Narine in the first ball of the second innings. However, Aaron Finch and Shreyas Iyer kept scoring the big shots, and made sure that the asking rate wasn't going out of reach. The Aussie opener had to depart after scoring a superb 58. The onus was then on the Kolkata skipper, who had a point to prove. Iyer didn't disappoint as he played an explosive knock. Contrary to his natural game, he decided to show more intent as he played some fearless shots.
After scoring a 51-ball 85, Iyer had to return to the pavilion after Yuzvendra Chahal got the better of him. Considering the fact that Kolkata were losing wickets at regular intervals, their skipper played a gem of a knock. Post his dismissal, Chahal went on to pick two more wickets in the next two balls and thus, completed his hat-trick. In the process, he also got to his maiden Indian T20 league fifer.
It is safe to say that the leggie got his team right back in the game. While Umesh Yadav did hit some lusty blows towards the end, it wasn't enough as the Iyer-led side fell short of their target by seven runs. Several fans took to Twitter to post some funny memes about the match.
