Lucknow managed to beat Punjab by 20 runs in the 42nd match of the Indian T20 league 2022. They now seem like a force to reckon with. This is their sixth win in nine games. As for Punjab, they have now lost five out of their nine games. The Mayank Agarwal-led side needs to buckle up as soon as possible as time is running out for them.
As far as the game is concerned, the pitch wasn't easy to bat on. Batters from both sides struggled to go on and get to a big score. After being asked to bat first, Lucknow lost their skipper KL Rahul rather early. Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda then tried to steady the ship. They were playing carefully before the keeper-batter was dismissed in the 13th over by Sandeep Sharma. Hooda was quick to follow as he had to return to the pavilion five balls later.
After which, Lucknow continued to lose wickets. As for Punjab's bowlers, Kagiso Rabada was outstanding. Despite going for 38 runs in his full quota of four overs, he picked four wickets. On the other hand, Arshdeep was impressive as well. Although he didn't pick a wicket, he only gave 23 runs in his four overs.
Thus, Lucknow scored 153-8 in the first innings. When Punjab came to bat, their openers started on a positive note as their skipper scored some eye-pleasing shots. However, Mayank Agarwal perished after scoring a 17-ball 25. Dhawan was then dismissed after scoring a 15-ball five. Just when Liam Livingstone and Jonny Bairstow started to look threatening, Mohsin Khan dismissed the English all-rounder.
The onus was then on Jonny Bairstow, who hasn't really been at his best in this edition. However, he too couldn't capitalize after getting to a start as he had to depart in the 16th over. He scored a 28-ball 32. As far as Lucknow's bowlers are concerned, Mohsin was impressive.
The youngster took three wickets in his full quota of four overs. Krunal Pandya was also superb as he only gave 11 runs in his four overs. In the process, he also took two wickets. Thus, the Punjab-based franchise fell short of their target by 20 runs. The fact that Lucknow won this game despite a few of their experienced players not firing comes as a huge confidence booster for them. Twitter users were ruthless as they posted some hilarious memes.
