Mumbai didn't reach the playoffs and have finished at the bottom of the points table this year. However, they also ruined Delhi's hopes of making a top-four finish after beating them by 5 wickets on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium.
In pursuit of a 159-run total, Khaleel Ahmed didn't allow Mumbai to make a solid start. Rohit Sharma struggled to score runs. He scored only 2 runs in 13 balls before getting out off Nortje in the last over of the powerplay. Ishan Kishan though hammered the balls which were in his arc and looked solid during his stay. In the first six overs, Rohit Sharma and Co. could only manage to score 27 runs on the board.
Ishan Kishan and D Brewis then steadied the ship and denied Delhi of picking wickets in a cluster. The bowlers too were guilty of bowling too many bad deliveries and both Ishan Kishan and D Brewis made full use of the bad balls. Ishan Kishan, eventually, got out in the 12th over off Kuldeep after scoring 48 off 35 balls.
However, crucial knocks from Brewis (37 off 33) and Tilak Varma (21 off 11) kept the team in the chase. Thakur got rid of Brewis in the 15th over but Tim David, once again wreaked havoc with the bat. He played another outstanding knock of 34 runs in just 11 balls only to take the game away from the opposition. He got out in the 18th over but had done his job by then. Mumbai, eventually, chased down the score in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, Delhi managed to score 159 runs after being asked to bat first on a slow pitch. They made a horrendous start with the bat. The likes of David Warner, Prithvi Shaw, and Mitchell Marsh got out inside the first six overs and had scored only 31 runs. Three overs, later, Sarfaraz Khan got out and Delhi had scored only 55 runs in the first 10 overs.
Rovman Powell then joined hands with Rishabh Pant and the duo added 51 runs in the next five overs to lead a stellar recovery. However, once again, Pant failed to convert the start into a big score. He got out in the 16th over after scoring 39 off 33 balls. However, Rovman Powell (44 off 34) and Axar Patel's (19 off 10) valuable knocks meant Delhi reached a reasonable score on the board.
For Mumbai, Jasprit Bumrah was superb with the ball. He picked three crucial wickets for just 25 runs in 4 overs. Mayank Markande (1 for 26) also returned with an impressive spell.
