Kolkata are having a horrendous outing in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. On Saturday, Shreyas Iyer and Co. suffered their 7th defeat this season at the hands of Lucknow at Maharashtra Cricket Stadium in Pune. Lucknow batted first in that encounter and managed to notch a formidable score of 176 runs at the end of the first innings.
Quinton de Kock led the way with the bat as he played a brilliant knock of 50 runs in 29 deliveries, a knock which was laced with 4 fours and 3 sixes. KL Rahul, the skipper, unfortunately, got run-out early, but De Kock and Hooda put together a 71-run partnership to lead a great recovery.
Hooda continued his good form as he played a handy knock of 41 runs in just 27 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes. Lucknow’s scoring rate took a hit in the middle overs as Krunal Pandya (25 off 27) and Ayush Badoni (15 off 18) were struggling in the middle.
However, valuable cameos from Stoinis (28 off 14) and Holder (13 off 4), later, helped the team reach a winning score on the board. For Kolkata, Tim Southee had another great outing with the ball. He conceded 28 runs for 1 wicket in 4 overs. However, Shivam Mavi went for plenty of runs, especially in the end, which, in fact, cost Kolkata the game. He returned with bowling figures of 1 for 50 runs in 4 overs.
In response to the score, Kolkata were bundled out for just 101 runs, thereby losing the game by a big margin of 75 runs. Shreyas Iyer and Co. just never got going with the bat. They made a horrible start, losing the first 4 wickets for just 25 runs on the board.
The likes of Aaron Finch (14 off 14), Shreyas Iyer (6 off 9), Nitish Rana (2 off 11) all failed to hit the straps. Rinku Singh, who starred with the bat in the last game, also got out cheaply for just 6 runs in 10 balls. Andre Russell revived some hopes with a counter-attacking knock of 45 runs in 19 balls, including 3 fours and 5 sixes. However, once he got out, it was all but over for Kolkata.
Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and, in the end, they were bundled out in just 14.3 overs. It was an outstanding bowling display from Lucknow’s bowling unit. Avesh Khan and Jason Holder combined to pick 6 wickets between them. Besides, Mohsin Khan, once again, returned with impressive figures of 1 for 6 runs in 3 overs.
With that defeat, Kolkata are now languishing at 8th position on the points table, having managed only 4 wins in 11 matches. Their hopes of reaching the playoffs are now hanging by a thread. Fans didn’t leave any stone unturned in trolling the franchise badly on Twitter. Here’s a look at the top 10 memes from the 53rd match between Lucknow and Kolkata.
