In pursuit of a 170-run total, Gujarat had lost 4 wickets for 96 runs in 13 overs. As many as 75 runs were needed in the last seven overs and, at that stage, it looked like Bangalore would win the game. However, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia stitched a match-winning 78-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the team home. Once again, Gujarat produced another sensational finish to register their 8th win of the season on Saturday.
David Miller played another sensational unbeaten 39 run-knock off 24 balls. Rahul Tewatia, once again, exhibited his finishing skills as he remained unbeaten on 43 off 25 balls.
Gujarat made a decent start to the chase in the powerplay. By the end of the first six overs, Gujarat had scored 46 without any loss of wickets. Hardik Pandya and Co. added 51 runs in the next six but also lost the wickets of Shubman Gill (31 off 28), Saha (29 off 22), and Hardik Pandya (3 off 5).
Sai Sudharsan was looking good but Hasaranga had him caught behind on 20 off 14 balls in the 13th over. Gujarat has scored 96 runs for the loss of 4 wickets at the end of 13 overs. However, Bangalore failed to put pressure and pick wickets further and, in the end, lost the game.
Earlier, Bangalore managed to notch a competitive score of 170 runs in the first innings. Skipper, Faf du Plessis (0 off4), once again, got out cheaply, however, the former Indian skipper, Virat Kohli notched his first half-century of the season. Much to the delight of Bangalore fans, Virat Kohli returned to form with a vital knock of 58 runs in 53 balls, a knock which was laced with 6 fours and 1 six.
Coming in at number three, Rajat Patidar also gave him valuable support. He played aggressively and took the pressure off from out-of-form Virat Kohli. Patidar hit five fours and 2 sixes en route to his 32-ball 52.
The duo shared 99-run partnership for the second wicket before Pradeep Sangwan sent Patidar back to the hut in the 15th over. One over later, Virat Kohli’s stay also ended Shami bowled him a perfect yorker. Glenn Maxwell, however, ensured the fall of wickets didn’t affect the scoring rate.
He played a valuable cameo of 33 runs in 18 balls, while Mahipal Lomror also played a handy knock of 16 runs in 8 balls in the death overs to help the reach a competitive score on the board. Playing his first game for the new franchise, Pradeep Sangwan exhibited a brilliant spell of 2 for 19 in 4 overs. However, the other seamers didn’t have a great day at the office.
