The 45th game of the Indian T20 league 2022 turned out to be a high-scoring contest. It was Lucknow who ended up on the winning side as they beat Delhi by six runs. It was an absolute thriller, to say the least. This is the Lucknow-based franchise's seventh win of the 2022 edition.
After winning the toss, the KL Rahul-led side decided to bat first. This was one of the few instances in this edition where the team that won the toss decided to field second. Lucknow had a good start as their openers got them to a good start.
Quinton de Kock was dismissed after scoring 23 runs from 13 balls. Post which, Deepak Hooda and his skipper Rahul came together to put on a comprehensive partnership. While the opener played it safe, Hooda was the aggressor. The 27-year-old played a marvellous knock as he scored 52 runs from just 34 balls.
It was Shardul Thakur who put an end to his innings as he dismissed him in the 15th over. As a matter of fact, the bowling all-rounder picked three wickets during the game, which included De Kock, Hooda and Rahul. However, Rahul made his presence felt during the first innings.
He continued his good form as he scored 51-ball 77. The Lucknow skipper has currently scored 451 runs in 10 innings at an average of 56.38 in the 2022 edition. His matured knock propelled the Lucknow-based franchise to 195-3 in their stipulated 20 overs. As for Delhi's bowlers, none of them were able to contain the flow of runs other than Axar Patel.
As for the second innings, the Delhi-based franchise lost their openers rather quickly. Mitchell Marsh then struck a few eye-catching shots before unfortunately being dismissed. He looked good and was all set to get to a big score. However, an umpiring error meant that he had to depart in the eighth over. Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell hit some lusty blows before Delhi's skipper was dismissed for a 30-ball 44. The Windies batter threatened to take the game away from Lucknow. However, Mohsin Khan got the better of him as he took his wicket.
The youngster was simply sensational as he picked a four-fer, while giving just 16 runs in his full quota of four overs. Thus, Delhi fell short of their target by six runs. This is their fifth loss of this season. Several fans then took to Twitter to post some hilarious memes.
