The 49th game of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Bangalore beat Chennai by 13 runs. After losing three consecutive games, this victory comes as a massive confidence booster for the Faf du Plessis-led side. This is Bangalore's sixth win in 11 games.
After being asked to bat first, Bangalore's openers were batting with great intent early on. Their skipper Faf du Plessis took the aggressive route. However, he had to perish after scoring a 22-ball 38. It was Moeen Ali who dismissed him.
After which, things considerably slowed down for the Bangalore-based franchise. Virat Kohli once again struggled to hit the big shots. To make matters worse, Glenn Maxwell had to depart due to an unfortunate run out. Kohli was quick to follow him as he was dismissed five balls later. The 33-year-old scored 30 runs, and consumed 33 balls for the same.
Just when Rajat Patidar got to a start, he threw it away as he was dismissed in an attempt to score a maximum. However, Mahipal Lomror played a superb knock, and looked positive throughout his innings. He took 27 balls to score 42. In the process, he also scored three fours and two sixes. Dinesh Karthik played a handy cameo as well.
The keeper-batter scored a 17-ball 26, and hit two sixes in the last over. This propelled Bangalore to 173-8 in the first innings. Post which, Chennai's openers played it safe. They didn't take too many risks as they only scored 25 runs in the first four overs. Post which, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad started to play the big shots. However, the 25-year-old was dismissed in the seventh over.
Nevertheless, Conway continued to go about his business as he got to his second consecutive half-century. Meanwhile, Maxwell sent Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu back to the pavilion. After which, the Kiwi opener was dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga in the 15th over as well.
Things looked difficult for the yellow army, and the onus was now on Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja. However, both of them failed to take their side through. Even Dhoni couldn't weave his magic this time around. Thus, they fell short of their target by 13 runs. Harshal Patel was superb as he picked three wickets in his four overs. Several fans took to Twitter to post some funny memes.
