According to a report by Cricbuzz, it has been learnt that this was discussed during the meeting with the owners of the teams on Saturday (January 22). According to the discussions, the biggest T20 tournament in the world would be conducted only in Maharashtra, with the first match likely to be held in Mumbai.

As a matter of fact, it was initially reported that the board is trying its best to conduct the tournament in India itself, and in Mumbai and Pune. Their plan consists of conducting it within four grounds, which are in close proximity to one another. This has been done to limit the travel in COVID times.

The meeting was attended by all owners, including the Ambani family, N Srinivasan, Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Parth Jindal.

Moreover, the promoters of the two new teams, i.e. Ahmedabad and Lucknow were also present. All of them were told that the tournament, which is slated to commence in March, will get completed during the last week of May. The meeting was intended to speak about the possible venues which would host the Indian T20 league. Not only Mumbai-Pune, but even South Africa and UAE were considered.

However, UAE was subsequently ruled out as dew will be a major factor in April and May in the Gulf nation. To support the fact, the results of the 20-20 World Cup 2021 were pointed out as well. Thus, most of the owners apparently preferred Mumbai as an ideal venue to host the 2022 edition.

One of the major reasons for that is the fact that there wouldn't be any requirement for air travel. However, the BCCI officials were of the opinion that it would be better to conduct it in South Africa. In the meanwhile, the upcoming mega auction is slated to take place on February 12 and 13.
