The fifth game of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Rajasthan completely dominate Hyderabad. It was a one-sided match, to say the least. This win would certainly boost the confidence of the 2008-champions.
However, there are a lot of worrying signs for Hyderabad. So where did it all go wrong for them? What mistakes did they make in their first game of the 2022 edition? Today, we shall be taking a look at three reasons why Hyderabad lost to Rajasthan.
1) Too many no balls:
Jos Buttler was given a life early on in his innings, as he was dismissed off a no ball of Bhuvneshwar Kumar's bowling. Alongside him, Umran Malik and Washington Sundar were the bowlers to overstep in the first innings.
Not only did it increase their target, but such errors also gave a world-class batter like Buttler a second opportunity. Besides, these mistakes helped Rajasthan gain momentum from the first over itself.
2) Poor performance by the spinners:
Although Hyderabad's strength are their pacers, their spinners need to contribute as well. Washington Sundar was terribly expensive as he gave 47 runs in three overs. He was expected to control the flow of runs, but failed to do so.
Even Abhishek Sharma gave 15 runs in the one over in which he bowled. If Hyderabad are to do well in the 2022 edition, then the spinners need to play a bigger role for them. Besides, the middle overs are a really important phase of the game.
3) Batting:
Hyderabad were poor with the bat as none of their top-order batters managed to score over 10. They lost three wickets in the first six overs. Moreover, they started playing defensive cricket as the orange army scored just 14 runs in the powerplay overs.
Only Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar were able to score more than 30. Besides, they were 36-4 after 10 overs. Hyderabad's fans would hope that this was just a bad day, and such a below-par performance doesn't happen again.
