Kolkata will take on Delhi in the 19th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 on Sunday at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Kolkata have had a dream start so far in the tournament.
With three wins in four matches, Shreyas Iyer and Co. are comfortably sitting at the top of the points table. On the other hand, Delhi are coming on the back of a defeat and have only managed to win one game out of three so far. Heading into an exciting game on Sunday, here’s a look at how these two teams shape up:
Team News:
Kolkata:
Kolkata snatched victory from the jaws of the defeat against Mumbai in their last game. Pat Cummins stole the show with the bat as he smashed 56 runs in just 15 deliveries to help his team chase down a 162-run target in just 16 overs.
Earlier, Kolkata restricted Mumbai to a 161-run total in the first innings. Umesh Yadav continues to deliver impressive spells with the ball. Pat Cummins, though, went for 49 runs in his 4 overs. As for now, all the players are fit and available to play.
Players to watch out for:
- Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer scored his first half-century this season with the bat in the last game against Mumbai. It wasn’t the best of his knocks but he would be happy to get some runs under his belt. That would have given him a lot of confidence.
- Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer hasn’t taken the world by storm with his batting performances yet. However, his recent form does inspire a lot of confidence. He will be the one to watch out for. He can wreak havoc with the bat if he manages to spend some time at the crease.
- Umesh Yadav
Delhi would be vary of Umesh Yadav’s threat in the power play overs on Sunday, given the kind of form the latter is in right now. There hasn’t been a single game where he endured a forgettable outing with the ball. Umesh Yadav is currently the highest wicket-taker in the tournament, picking 9 wickets in 4 matches at 9.33.
Probable Playing XI:
Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (Captain), Sam Billings (Wk), Nitish Rana, Andre Russell, Pat Cummins, Sunil Narine, Rasikh Salam, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy
Delhi:
Delhi have had a tough time so far in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League 2022. They struggled to post a big total on the board in the last game against Lucknow. David Warner fell cheaply, while Rovman Powell has failed to hit the straps. Pant didn’t score at his very best either.
He consumed 36 balls in scoring 36 runs and Delhi could only manage 149 runs in the first innings. If Mitchell Marsh would be fit to play, then he will surely replace Rovman Powell in the playing XI. Anrich Nortje too had a forgettable night with the ball. He would look to bounce back strongly as well.
Players to watch out for:
- Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant hasn’t lived up to the expectations so far in the tournament. He is yet to find his best form in the tournament. The upcoming match against Kolkata could be the game for him to unleash himself and wreak havoc with the bat.
- Prithvi Shaw
The Delhi opener gave a sensational start in the last game. He played in his destructive manner and went on to score 61 runs in just 34 balls. Delhi would be wanting him to replicate a similar performance on Sunday as well.
- David Warner
David Warner struggled his way to 4 off 12 balls in the last match. He found it tough to adjust to the conditions. However, the kind of experience and talent this man has, you expect him to bounce back strongly. He will be one of the players to watch out for.
Probable Playing XI:
Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh/Rovman Powell, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Sarfaraz Khan, Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, Anrich Nortje

Pitch Report:
The 19th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 is scheduled to be played between Kolkata and Delhi at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. The 16th match between Punjab and Gujarat also took place here. It was a high-scoring total. Once again, you could see both teams notching big totals on the board. Given the fact that it will be a day game, you don’t expect the dew to have an impact in the game.
