Jason Roy has decided not to participate in the fifteenth edition of the Indian T20 league. It is to be noted that Gujarat managed to buy him during the mega auction for INR 2 crore. Taking his current form into account, the franchise will certainly miss his services. Besides, he's arguably one of the best T20 batters. However, there are several players who can replace him. So who could be an ideal replacement for the English opener? Today, we shall be taking a look at five players Gujrat can target to replace Jason Roy
1) Rahmanullah Gurbaz
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is the most likely candidate to replace Jason Roy. Just like Roy, he is an opener and loves to take the attack to the opposition. He has been in some fine form of late as well. After performing reasonably well for his national team Afghanistan, he played some blistering knocks in the Pakistan Super League as well. Gurbaz has played 20 T20Is for Afghanistan, scoring 534 runs at an average of 26.70 and a strike rate of over 137.
2) Martin Guptill
Martin Guptill is a veteran in the shortest format of the game. In fact, he has scored the second-most number of runs in the history of T20I cricket. The Kiwi opener has scored 3299 T20I runs. As far as T20s go, Guptill has scored as many as 8337 runs in 284 innings. Alongside his batting, he brings a lot of experience to the table.
3) Chris Lynn
The Indian T20 league has had its fair share of "Lynnsanity". The Aussie opener has already displayed his explosive skills in the toughest 20. Besides, he has always been an "X factor" in the shortest format of the game. Lynn has scored 1329 runs in 42 games in the Indian T20 league. While he has a batting average of 34.08, the 31-year-old has a whopping strike rate of 140.63.
4) Ben McDermott
Ben McDermott has been in superb form of late. Not only did he score the most number of runs in the Big Bash League 2021-22, but he was also named the player of the series during the latest edition of Australia's T20 league. He was recently seen during the five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, and was fairly good. Besides, he can do the glovework as well.
5) Paul Stirling
Paul Stirling has been one of the most underrated players in the shortest format of the game. Not only has he been consistent, but the Irishman has been playing for quite a while now. In 101 T20Is, the opener has scored 2776 runs at an average of 29.53. This includes 20 fifties and a hundred as well. It is to be noted that he is a handy spinner as well, and can regularly bowl a few overs.
