Anrich Nortje has been one of Delhi's key players since 2020. Ever since he started playing for the franchise, he has been a lethal weapon for them. His USP is to generate the extra pace.
However, he has been injured for a while now, and was ruled out of the Indian and New Zealand series respectively. Thus, there is a huge question mark over his participation in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 league. If he does indeed get ruled out of this edition, who should replace him? Here are five players who can replace Nortje:
1) Andrew Tye
Andrew Tye was one of the best T20 bowlers. His ability to pick wickets at the death is rare. Besides, he was superb during the Big Bash League 2021-22 as well.
The Aussie pacer is a wicket-taking option, and could be a superb pick for Delhi. Moreover, he won the Purple Cap during the 2018 edition of the Indian T20 league. Thus, he's no stranger to the toughest league.
2) Blessing Muzarabani
Blessing Muzarabani going unsold in the mega auction took many by surprise. The Zimbabwe pacer has been superb of late. His bowling is tailor-made for the shorter formats of the game.
He has the tendency to regularly clock 135-140. Besides, he has picked 25 wickets in 21 games at an average of 26.12. His economy rate is 8, which is more than decent in this format of the game.
3) Kane Richardson
When it comes to white-ball cricket, Kane Richardson is a proven match-winner. He has a wide variety of variations at his disposal. The Aussie has played a lot of games in the biggest T20 league in the world as well.
The teams he has played for are Rajasthan, Pune and Bangalore. He has picked 19 wickets in 15 games of this league. His experience can be really handy for Delhi.
4) Reece Topley
Reece Topley has played as many as 104 T20 matches. Although he is yet to make his debut in the Indian T20 league, he can prove to be a superb replacement.
His height gives the added advantage of generating the extra bounce. So far, he has played 10 T20Is for England and has picked eight wickets. His bowling average and strike rate are 35.62 and 24.88 respectively.
5) Ishant Sharma
Ishant Sharma was with Delhi before going unsold during the mega auction this year. He's one of the most experienced Indian pacers right now. Despite not being a premier T20 bowler, he has worked hard on his skills, and has only got better as a bowler in the shortest format of the game.
His ability to pick wickets with the new ball is commendable and the best part of having him is that he doesn't occupy an overseas spot. This gives the Rishabh Pant-led side to play an extra overseas player.
