The big news coming in for England is that Jofra Archer has gone back to bowling in the nets ahead of the ODI World Cup. Archer recently suffered a stress fracture in his right elbow. This means that England will hope to play him in the latter stages of the 2023 ODI World Cup if possible. Archer has been through a series of injuries which has not allowed his cricket career to take off the way that he would have liked.

In the 2019 World Cup Archer played a pivotal role which ensured that England lifted their maiden ODI World Cup at home. Archer picked up 23 wickets in that tournament at an average of 23.05. In the four ODIs that he has played in 2023 the right-arm pacer has picked up 12 wickets. If Archer is back then he can form a deadly combination with Mark Wood on Indian pitches that would be placid if he gets the right tempo.

Jofra Archer played only five games for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023

Archer did not set the Indian Premier League 2023 alight for Mumbai Indians as he played only five matches and picked up two wickets. He also conceded 190 runs in those games and was a pale shade of his destructive self. Talking about the ODI World Cup in India, it will be played from October 5 to November 19. This is the fourth time that India will be hosting the tournament.

England will want to defend the World Cup title they won in 2019. But it won't be easy in India as most of the sides have exposure to Indian conditions having played a lot of cricket there and also because of the variance in pitches in India as compared to England.

The Three Lions will play four ODIs against New Zealand followed by three of them against Ireland. All squads for the World Cup must be submitted to the Cricket Governing Body by September 5  before England’s next ODI. But all countries are free to make alterations to their squad until September 27.
