India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the latest entry in this elite club. The young lad achieved this remarkable feat during the ongoing second Test against England in Visakhapatnam. India were 1-0 down in the series and when the rest of the batters struggled to find runs, the southpaw stood tall and fought singlehandedly to keep his team in the hunt. His 209 off 290 balls, including 19 fours and 7 sixes, helped India post 396 in their first innings.
#2. Sunil Gavaskar - 21y 283d (220 vs West Indies, 1971)
In 1971, Sunil Gavaskar's double century against West Indies at Port of Spain marked the beginning of an illustrious career. The incredible feat came at the age of just 21 years and 283 days, making him the second youngest Indian player to score a double century. The 'Little Master' made a statement at a very young age, amassing a total of 774 runs in a five-match series. His 124 and brilliant 220 in the final Test against a fiery Windies pace attack were the highlights of the series.
#1. Vinod Kambli (224 vs England in 1993, 227 vs Zimbabwe in 1993)
Former cricketer Vinod Kambli is the youngest Indian to score a double century in Test cricket. The left-hander was a sensation during his playing days, but his career was short-lived due to controversies and disciplinary issues. Kambli made his Test debut against England in 1993, against whom he scored his maiden double century. Notably, the 52-year-old is also second on the list.
- 224 vs England, 1993 (21y 35d): This was Kambli's announcement to the big stage as the feat came in his second Test match. He scored a magnificent 224 runs against England in Mumbai, an innings packed with elegant strokes. His knock consisted of 23 boundaries as it helped India post 591 in their only innings in the Test. The tourists lost the match by an innings and 15 runs.
- 227 vs Zimbabwe, 1993 (21y 55d): Kambli repeated his heroics against Zimbabwe in the same year in Delhi. En route to his splendid 227, the southpaw smashed 28 boundaries. His gritty knock helped India post a huge first-innings score of 536, which Zimbabwe could not cover in their two innings combined.
