Cricket will make a comeback in the Olympics in 2028. The LA28 (Los Angeles 2028) committee's proposal for the game has been given a green signal by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Cricket was last included in the quadrennial tournament in 1985 Only two teams competed: France and Great Britain. It was a Test match, with each team fielding 12 cricketers. The latter won, although the game was never counted to the level of a first-class match.
Ahead of the tournament, Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah expressed his happiness and joy at the inclusion of cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. He believes there has been a lot of support from the Cricket Governing Body as it will give a new opening to the game. Jay Shah also believes this will boost the other participants as Cricket in India is like a religion for the fans.
In 1900 England and Australia were the teams in international cricket. Sachin Tendulkar also welcomed the addition of the game to the Olympic roster. The IOC session in Mumbai was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday.
