According to an ESPNCricinfo report, continuity is one of the main reasons why the Indian Cricket Board has approached a fresh contract to onboard Dravid again. The board wants Dravid's structure to remain, but the former India captain has yet to respond to the offer.

According to another report, the Indian Cricket Board has prepared travel documents for both Dravid and VVS Laxman, who presently leads the NCA and is expected to take over if the former does not want a contract extension. Laxman is now with the second-string Indian side which is being led by Suryakumar Yadav for the five-match T20I series against Australia and is widely regarded as the favourite candidate to become the next head coach.

Dravid after the World Cup 2023 conclusion said,  "I haven't thought about it. I have no time to think about this and no time to reflect on this. I will when I get the time to do that. But at this point of time, I was completely focused on this campaign. I was focused on this World Cup, and there was nothing else on my mind."

Gautam Gambhir has commented on Dravid's coaching chaos, he stated,  "The way India have played in the World Cup, his contract should be renewed automatically. It will be very bad if you judge a coach by just one match. Whatever is with the players, its the same for the coach. Every player. every coach wants to win the World Cup for the team. So, if he wants to renew...there can be nothing better than continuity."

"However, I want to add one thing. I never understood one thing. It happened during our time in 2011 too. When you say that you want to win the World Cup an individual, doesn't matter who that is... this statement is not right."
