Beleaguered Indian stars Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer have been handed a new-life. One source from the Indian board has revealed how the two players can be given back their contracts. The comments were made to ESPN CRICINFO after there was a huge controversy about the contract omission.
Shreyas Iyer will pad up for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in the Indian domestic season. The match is to be played at the BKC ground starting on Saturday. 25-year-old Ishan Kishan has just come back to cricket with the RBI team in the DY Patil T20 Cup.
Meanwhile. Team India will finish their Test series against England with the final game starting on 7th March. The players will then rest for under two weeks before the start of the IPL 2024 season.
Indian duo set offered new hope for central contracts –
After all the controversy over Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer not being the contracts. Indian Cricket Board has thrown a new lifeline to the two-star players. One board source was speaking to ESPN CRICINFO and revealed more details.
“The selectors don’t doubt their ability. But if the NCA is saying you are fit and you are not making yourself available for the Test series, how can the board offer you a contract”. According to the source, the duo will be closely looked at during the IPL 2024 season for their batting form.
The source said also “After the IPL if they happen to get selected and fulfil the criteria of the number of matches required for a pro-rata contract, they will be awarded a contract." The players now have to play a certain amount of games to be eligible for their contracts.
Shreyas Iyer was part of the first two Tests against England but the 29-year-old failed to perform. The right-handed batter will lead Kolkata Knight Riders during the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The Mumbai batter now has to make sure he score runs to make it back to the longest format of the game.
