From Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi to Virat Kohli, Indian cricket has seen some great skippers. A lot of them have seen wins and losses across formats. However, there are a few who have a hundred percent win record. Notably, these players have led the team in a limited number of games across formats which might be the reason for such a record.
Some of them didn't lead the team again after tasting the fruit of captaincy. Out of those, one player led India in the longest format for a year before retiring from the game. In this listicle, we will discuss five players who have a 100 percent win record.
Five players who have a 100 percent win record
-
Virender Sehwag
The former opening batter has led India across formats with his regular skippers being absent for some games. He has led the team in 12 ODIs, four Tests, and a T20I in 2006. Sehwag has a 100 percent record in the shortest format of the game.
In India's first-ever T20I game, he led the team to a six-wicket victory. In other formats, the team has lost five ODIs and a Test. There was a time when he was assumed to lead the team full-time but it never happened.
2. Ajinkya Rahane
The Mumbaikar is the only Indian captain to haven't lost a game as captains in two different formats. In the three ODIs and six Tests, the team hasn't lost a game under him. For the unversed, he led the team in a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe in 2015.
In Tests, he has won four and drawn two as captain. Three of those wins have came against Australia in 2017 and 2020-21. The drawn games also includes the Sydney Test played last year.
3. Gautam Gambhir
The left-hander led the team in six ODIs from late 2010 till late 2011. Five of those games came against New Zealand at home. At that time, a lot of senior players went to South Africa to prepare for the Test series.
He led the second-string side which whitewashed the Kiwis. This was the first time the Men In Blue had whitewashed the Blackcaps. Also, the responsibility didn't had any impact on his batting as he was the Player of the Series award.
4. Suresh Raina
The two-time World Championships winner has led the team in three T20Is - Two against Zimbabwe and one against the West Indies. In 2010, India beat the Red Army in a two-match series. The next year, he led the team in a T20I game against the Maroon Brigade.
With the bat, he averages 51 in the format which is better than his career average. On the other hand, he has led the team in ODIs but didn't have the same effect.
5. Anil Kumble
Most fans would remember him for his Test captaincy in his last year as a player. However, in 2002, he led the team in an ODI game. That game was played in Chennai against England.
Apparently, Sourav Ganguly couldn't play the game which is why the Karnataka player took over. After that, he didn't lead the team in the 50-over format but led the team from 2007 to 2008.
