After a disappointing campaign in the Asia Cup 2022, the Indian team will take on Australia in a home T20I series, starting on 20th September. The series will act as final preparations for the upcoming 20-20 World Cup in October. Both Australia and India will be looking to finalize their team combinations before the mega event gets underway on the 16th of October.
India
India had a disappointing run in the Asia Cup 2022 as they crashed out of the tournament after consecutive defeats against Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4s stage. The ‘Men-in-Blue’, once again, let down their fans who are desperately waiting for a ‘World-Event’ victory since 2013.
Captain Rohit Sharma is under immense pressure to bring home the World Cup next month. The series will be a great platform for the Indian team to test their squad against a world-class team.
Australia
Australia last played a T20I series against Sri Lanka in June which they won by a margin of 2-1. Australia have two more series after this one to finalize their team combination for the World Cup. The Aaron Finch-led side will be defending their world cup title in their home next month.
Australia, who had never won a 20-20 World Cup, finally managed to grab the coveted trophy last year in U.A.E. Finch, recently, bid adieu to ODI cricket and he will be eager to give his all for his team in the upcoming World Cup. The series against India will also serve as a great practice event for Australia leading up to the World Cup.
