While India and South Africa are playing a thriller in Cape Town, their respective U-19 sides are all set to face each other in the U-19 World Cup. This group B encounter in Guyana is all set to be a cracker of a contest.
After winning the world event in the 2018 edition, the Asian side went on to reach the final during the previous edition of the tournament in 2020. On the other hand, the Proteas did win the U-19 WC in 2014, and have been fairly decent in the recent past. Hrishikesh Kantikar, who happens to be India's coach, was aware of how good the Heerden-led side are and thus, went on to acknowledge it.
However, he said that the Dhull-led side should play without the burden of being the four-time champions. Kantikar also said that they won't to look think about the ITL auction and Ranji Trophy at the moment, and just focus on the tournament.
“There is a huge legacy since India has done so well in this tournament. It doesn’t help that we have won four times. There is a new team, so you have to start afresh,” Hrishikesh Kanitkar said during an online media interaction ahead of the marquee event.
“We don’t want to look too far ahead at things like the IPL auction and the Ranji Trophy. What we need to do is to just focus on what we can do in this tournament," he added.
