Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc unavailable for the first ODIΒ

On the eve of the first ODI, Australia has received a significant setback as they will be without the services of left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for the series opener. However, there is optimism from Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, that both players could make a comeback for the remaining two matches in the series.

It's worth noting that Starc is still in the process of recovering from a groin injury he suffered during the 2023 Ashes series, while Maxwell, who had to leave the recent South Africa series due to ankle soreness, is set to rejoin the squad on Friday, September 22. In addition to this, Captain Cummins, who has recuperated from a wrist injury, is eager to participate in all three matches of the series. Furthermore, star batsman Steve Smith is also set to return after healing from a wrist injury he sustained during the Ashes.

Cummins also commended Marnus Labuschagne, the top run-scorer in the series against South Africa (283 runs in 5 innings), and expressed confidence in his potential to secure a spot in the World Cup squad with another outstanding series performance.
