Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the best players of this generation. Moreover, the last few months have really great for the opener. After being appointed as India's limited-overs skipper, he was recently named the Test captain of the Asian side as well.
Sharma will be seen in action on Thursday, as India will be facing Sri Lanka in the first of the three-match T20I series. However, the upcoming games are expected to be historic for the opener as he is nearing several records.
First things first, Sharma needs just 37 runs to surpass Martin Guptill, and become the leading run-scorer in the shortest format of the game. The Kiwi batter currently has scored 3299 T20I runs. In the meanwhile, Virat Kohli has scored 3296 runs in T20Is.
India's captain has scored 3263 runs, and seems all set to go ahead of both, Guptill, as well as Kohli. In the meanwhile, Sharma needs to score 63 more runs to become the third Indian skipper to score 1000 runs in T20s. His teammate Kohli has scored the most number of T20 runs, i.e 1570 runs in just 50 games.
Second on this list is MS Dhoni, with 1112 runs in 72 matches. As far as the third record that Sharma is nearing, it is with respect to the most number of appearances in the shortest format of the game. The "Hitman" is all set to become the most experienced T20I player, and overtake Shoaib Malik.
While Pakistan's all-rounder has played 124 T20I matches as of now, Sharma had played 122 matches. Thus, he shall cross Malik in this series itself. To conclude, his fans have a lot of things to look forward to in the upcoming week. This series promises to be an exciting one.
