India (Ind) vs Sri Lanka (SL) first ODI on January 10, Tuesday turned out to be a cracking contest and it was the Indian team who came out on top by winning the game by 67 runs after putting on 373 runs on the board at the end of the first innings. Virat Kohli, the Indian superstar, scored his 45th ODI century and silenced his haters who claimed that the batter is well past his prime.
The openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma got off to a great start with the bat putting on a 100+ stand for the opening wicket. While India’s victory was cherished all over the country, there were a few records that were broken along the course as well. We decided to handpick three records which were broken during India vs Sri Lanka first ODI.
Here are the three records that were broken during the IND vs SL 1st ODI:
3) Umran Malik’s 156 KM/H delivery
India found a gem in Umran Malik and the pacer is fast becoming India’s trusted pacer across formats, with the Test being the only format where he is yet to make his debut. The Indian pacer recently broke the fastest delivery bowled by an Indian after clocking 155 km/h during the second T20I vs Sri Lanka.
Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, the fiery pacer broke the record yet again during the first ODI against the Lankan Lions when he clocked 156 km/h registering the fastest-ever delivery bowled by an Indian in international cricket.
2) Rohit Sharma becomes second-fastest Indian to reach 9500 ODI runs
While Virat Kohli scored a fighting 113, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, on the other hand, amassed 83 runs to his name and made a stupendous comeback in the format. Over the course of the same, Rohit breached the 9500-run landmark in the ODI format and became the second-fastest Indian (229) innings to achieve the feat.
Kohli, the Indian superstar, stands first in the list as he went past the 9500-run landmark in just 200 innings. Fans, on the other hand, would hope for the Indian captain to carry on with the form in the upcoming series against New Zealand as well, which will get underway on January 18.
1) Shubman Gill tops list of batters with most runs for India after 16 ODI innings
While Virat Kohli’s century and Rohit Sharma’s blistering 83 were some of the takeaways from the first ODI vs Sri Lanka, Shubman Gill, the Indian young opener, scoring yet another half-century was another positive from the game to take out for the Indian team management.
For the unversed, the Indian opener, who plays for the Gujarat franchise in the Indian T20 League, scored 70 runs and along the course of the same, Gill overtook Shreyas Iyer (748 runs) to become the batter with the most runs in the format after 16 innings with 753 runs to his name.
