The ongoing Test between India and Sri Lanka saw Ravindra Jadeja play an absolute gem of an innings. After making a comeback to the Test side after three months, he scored a brilliant hundred. He didn't stop there as he went on to score an unbeaten 175.
His knock included 17 boundaries and three sixes. As a matter of fact, he put on crucial partnerships with Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin, to ensure that India dominates the proceedings. However, it was an absolute pity that he couldn't score a double hundred.
Just as when he was beginning to see the red cherry like a football, Rohit Sharma decided to declare the innings. If the all-rounder could have been given at least five to six more overs, then he could have certainly got the opportunity to get to a double hundred.
Whenever there is an instance of a batter being denied a double hundred, the game between India and Pakistan in Multan automatically comes to everyone's mind. That incident took place on March 29 2004.
India declared at 574-8 in the first Test against Sri Lanka
Back then, Virender Sehwag's maiden triple hundred overshadowed Sachin Tendulkar's amazing 194*. However, it is to be noted that he looked all set to score a double hundred, before the then stand-in captain Rahul Dravid had declared the innings. During that game, Tendulkar added 29 runs in 35 balls, and went from 165 to 194 rather quickly.
However, at the stroke of Yuvraj Singh's wicket, Dravid declared their innings at 675/5. Tendulkar was left in disarray, and the fans were shocked by this decision. Thus, Jadeja being denied a double hundred was similar to that instance.
In what turns out to be a coincidence, the current head coach of India is none other than Dravid. Thus, the legend has been involved in an abrupt declaration when a batter is nearing a milestone once again. Nevertheless, the southpaw has ensured that the hosts are in a commendable position.
