Team India could hand out its fourth Test cap of the series during the Ranchi Test. According to the Indian Express, pace bowler Akash Deep could make his Test debut for India. The 27-year-old could replace Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian playing XI during the 4th Test starting on Friday.

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the game in a bid to manage his workload. The 30-year-old has been in superb form with the ball in the previous three games. Mukesh Kumar who played the Vizag Test in place of Mohammed Siraj has apparently failed to impress the management.

This move also means that the pitch in Ranchi will not be a square turner. Axar Patel might miss out on yet another game after he was rested for the previous Test in Rajkot. KL Rahul is also out of the game after it came to light that the 31-year-old is still not fit.

Is Akash Deep set for a Test debut?

Indian cricket fans could see fast bowler Akash Deep make his Test debut during the Ranchi Test. Indian Express reported that the Indian team management is keen to give the young bowler a game. Akash Deep has played 30 games and picked 104 wickets with a best of 6/60 for Bengal.

One of the reasons behind this move is Akash Deep’s latest performances with the ball against the England Lions. The 27-year-old seamer picked 13 wickets from five innings across the three games he played.

Sarfaraz Khan and Rajat Patidar were given their Test caps recently. The duo were teammates of Akash Deep for India A against the England Lions. While Rajat Patidar has struggled with the bat, Sarfaraz Khan has done well by scoring two half-centuries in Rajkot.

Dhruv Jurel also got his Test cap as he replaced KS Bharat for the Rajkot Test. The 22-year-old batted well to score 46 in his Test debut to impress the management. Jurel also impressed with his wicket-keeping skills by effecting a run out of Ben Duckett.

Mukesh Kumar is likely to be snubbed for the 4th Test after his less-than-impressive performance with the ball. The 30-year-old was hit for runs particularly Ben Duckett during the Vizag Test. The only wicket for Mukesh Kumar during the 2nd test was that of Shoaib Bashir which came in the 2nd innings of the game.
