An exciting day five of the ongoing first Ashes Test is on the cards for players and fans as Australia need 174 runs with seven wickets in hand. But, on day four, Steve Smith got mocked by the Edgbaston crowd while fielding during England’s second innings. The Barmy also shared the video on Twitter.

They shared with the caption: “Steve Smith heads over to the Hollies for the first time this series…. #Ashes.” The crowd was seen teasing Smith with a ‘We Saw You Cry On The Telly’ chant. Smith was also found with a sarcastic smile after hearing that while Ollie Robinson was also seen smiling while batting.

The crowd at the infamous Eric Hollies stand at the venue came up with that chant. However, they reminded him about the sandpaper scandal. It happened during the Australia tour of South Africa in 2018. Steve Smith, Cameron Bancroft, and David Warner were found guilty of ball-attempting during the third Test against the Proteas in Cape Town. Then, Smith was the skipper while Warner was the vice-captain. Later in the press conference, all these players admitted using yellow adhesive tape to tamper with the ball.  After returning to Australia, while addressing reporters, Smith was found in tears.

Both Smith and Warner stepped down as captain and vice-captain. Cricket Australia handed a 12-month ban to Smith and Warner each and a nine-month ban to Bancroft. The Apex Council of Cricket also took action as they sanctioned Bancroft with a Level 2 offence. Smith also was charged with hampering the Spirit of the Game. However, after this Steve Smith came out to bat in the second innings on day four. But, Stuart Broad took his wicket as he managed only six runs off 13 balls, including one four. Thus, in this ongoing match, Smith scored just 22 runs in two innings despite a brilliant century in the WTC final against India at the Oval before this clash.
