In a major piece of news, Mohammad Nabi has stepped down from the role of the captaincy of the national side of Afghanistan in the aftermath of the team's defeat against Australia in their last match of the super-12 round in the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. Notably, the 37-year-old was also seen struggling in the tournament after two 40+ scores in the first two matches of their campaign.

"Dear Compatriots and Cricket Lovers, our 20-20 World Cup journey came to an end, with a result that not we nor our supporters were expecting. We are as frustrated as you are with the outcome of matches. For the last year, our team preparation was not to a level that a captain would want or need for a big tournament," stated Nabi in his official statement posted by him on his official Twitter handle.

While summing up his statement, the veteran all-rounder also extended his gratitude towards the Afghan fans who attended all the matches of their national cricket team despite rain-occurred disturbances.

"I thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart who came to the grounds despite matches being affected by the rain and those who supported us worldwide, your love truly means a lot to us. Long live Afghanistan. With best regards, Mohammad Nabi," the former skipper concluded.

Speaking of the batting performances of Nabi in the eighth edition of the 20-20 World Cup, he remained unbeaten in the first two matches against Bangladesh and Pakistan. But the skipper failed to impress the next three matches as he could score only 3, 13, and 1 including the recent match against Australia.
