Coming back home is always an emotional experience, more so when one’s coming back as a successful person. Not only is one’s family proud but the whole locality beams with a sense of achievement. The same is going to come true for the Pakistan batter Imam-ul-Haq, who is set to play his first international match in his hometown Multan.
The match in question is the curtain-raiser for the upcoming West Indies series starting on Wednesday at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Imam, who comes from a family of great cricketing lineage, has spent most of his childhood in Multan. He is the nephew of the great Pakistan batsman and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq. Understandably he is looking forward to this special occasion when he gets to play an international game in front of his home crowd.
The Multan-born cricketer has expressed great excitement for the upcoming match and is looking forward to doing what his uncle Inzamam did on many occasions. Through a video shared on Twitter by Pakistan Cricket, he said, “I have always seen my chachu (uncle, Inzamam-ul-Haq) play here. So, I am very excited to play my first match (for Pakistan) here. I have been born here and even while coming from the bus, I was remembering how things were in my childhood. So, it is a really nice moment for me, and I am looking forward to it,” said Imam-ul-Haq
“I would like to thank everyone and especially my teammates as I am going to play my 50th ODI. The game of cricket teaches you a lot of things. There were highs, lows, as well as criticism. But I have enjoyed a lot and my teammates have made me enjoy it even more,” he said, showing gratitude for the support he has received.
Imam-ul-Haq has scored 2321 runs with an average of 53.98 in the 49 ODIs he has played so far. Thus, it will be exciting to watch him bat in the upcoming game against the West Indies.
