Pakistan skipper Babar Azam is in middle of a dream run. The elegant batsman recently pipped the Indian skipper Virat Kohli to occupy the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings. Now, as per the latest ICC Men’s T20I rankings, Azam has leapfrogged Aaron Finch to settle at the second spot, behind Dawid Malan.
Fakhar Zaman too was rewarded for his impressive outing against South Africa and moved 17 slots up to reach the 33rd position. Mohammad Rizwan, who stroked a blistering 73 in the third T20I has advanced eight places to reach the career-best 15th ranking.
In the bowling department, Shaheen Afridi equalled his career-best 11th rank while all-rounder Faheem Ashraf climbed 12 places to 16th. Mohammad Nawaz was up by four places to 25th while Haris Rauf walked up 43 places to 38th.
Babar is still 48 points behind the top-ranked Dawid Malan but he will have an opportunity to claim his No 1 slot, which he occupied till last November, in the upcoming series against Zimbabwe.
For South Africa, Rassie van der Dussen has advanced three slots to the sixth position while Aiden Markram is up by 31 places to 34th. Janneman Malan ascended 52 places to 73rd. All-rounder Geoge Linde gained 29 slots to reach 17th rank.
The latest weekly update has also taken the ongoing tri-nation series between Nepal, Netherlands and Malaysia into consideration. Nepal leg spinner Sandeep Lamichhane advanced eight places to 77th while skipper Gyanendra Malla has moved up 10 places to 107th position. For the Netherlands, Scott Edwards gained 12 places to reach 135th while Pieter Seelaar moved up 25 places to 188th.
