In what comes as big news, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule for the T20 World Cup 2022. The tournament is all set to commence on 16th October 2022, and shall end on 13th November 2022.
16 teams will be participating in this tournament, with 12 of them qualifying for the Super 12 stages. While there will be two groups, i.e. Group 1 and 2, the teams in Group 1 are Australia, Afghanistan, England, and New Zealand as of now. On the other hand, the current teams in Group 2 are India, South Africa, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The Super 12 stages will start on October 22, with Australia and New Zealand locking horns against each other. It is to be noted that these two teams were the finalists of the previous edition in 2021. On October 23, the mega clash between India and Pakistan is lined up.
However, the first round of the tournament, which is the qualifiers, is slated to start from 16th October to 21st October 2022. This will determine the four teams which join the eight other teams, which have already qualified for the Super 12 stages of the tournament. The eighth edition of the T20 WC comes just a year after the seventh edition, which was conducted in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Australia had won the previous edition after defeating New Zealand in the final clash.
