The 49th game of the Indian T20 league 2022 saw Bangalore beat Chennai by 13 runs. This was their sixth win of this edition. After scoring 173 in the first innings, they managed to defend it as their bowlers were clinical, to say the least.
However, the surprise package for them was Glenn Maxwell. The batting all-rounder took two wickets in his full quota of four overs, while giving just 22 runs. He managed to dismiss Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu. His spell played an influential role in the Faf du Plessis-led side's victory.
However, he was only able to score three runs earlier with the bat. It is to be noted that he was unfortunately run out in the 10th over of the first innings. A terrible mix-up between him and Virat Kohli meant that the Australian had to prematurely return to the pavilion. Thus, Maxwell went on to cheekily take a sly dig at the Indian batter. He told the batting maestro that he can't run like him.
"I cannot bat with you, you run too fast. You hit ones and two's, I don't," said Glenn Maxwell to Virat Kohli in a video posted by Bangalore's official Twitter account. Thus, this clip instantly went viral. Fans loved the candid reaction of the star all-rounder
In the meanwhile, Maxwell drew light on the game. After the completion of the game, he spoke about how the conditions were favourable for the finger spinners. He explained how he aimed at bowling within the stumps. The 33-year-old also gave a complete breakdown of his delivery that dismissed Uthappa.
"Over the moon. Really good bowling effort. We felt there is enough tackiness in the wicket that we were able to exploit with the spinners and for the pacers to hold their nerve against some powerful death hitters to finish off the game was good. The way Moeen and Jadeja bowled, it showed the finger spinners were getting a bit of hold and grip. For me, it was about bowling within the stumps and changing the seam angle to try and get that variable spin. It helps that they had two lefties and I was able to spin the ball away.
