The Indian Cricket Board announced the squad for a 5-match T20 home series against South Africa on Sunday. A lot of senior players haven't been included in a bid to give them adequate rest for the upcoming tour of England.
Thus, the selectors handed call-ups to a lot of young players for the series. One of the most talked-about inclusions in the team is the rising pace sensation, Umran Malik. The Indian seamer has impressed one and one with his fast bowling exploits in the Indian T20 League 2022.
Turning up for Hyderabad, he picked 22 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 20.18. He has consistently bowled over 150 clicks and is the fastest bowler in the nation, at present. On Sunday, the 22-year-old fast bowler was selected for India and it was, indeed, a dream come true moment for both him and his parents.
Recently in an interview, Umran Malik’s father expressed his delight over his son’s selection in the Indian Cricket Team for the series against South Africa.
"People were just coming in hoards to congratulate me. I am now going home and would join the celebrations. Just saw the news on internet. What could be a bigger achievement than to wear the national colours," Umran Malik’s father, Rashid said.
"He has made all of us proud with his performances in the IPL and the way the whole country rallied behind him, we as a family can only be thankful. Pura desh ke support mila mere Umran ko," he added.
The 22-year-old’s father hailed his son for doing all the hard-work to reach where he is today and didn’t want to take any credit for that.
"Umran had self-belief that one day he will achieve success. He had faith in his skill and talent and worked hard for it. It is completely his success and also Almighty's blessings. He worked hard and God supported him. I don't deserve credit for his hard work," Rashid said.
The five-match T20 series against South Africa is slated to start on 9th June 2022. It will be interesting to see if Umran Malik gets to make his debut for the series.
