The Indian team under the leadership of KL Rahul is all set to play the first of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe on the tour of the African country. Senior batter will lead the team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma as he is preparing for the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 commencing on the 27th of August in the succeeding week.
Coming back to the discussion of India’s tour of Zimbabwe, then stand-in skipper KL Rahul attended a press conference ahead of the first match against the hosts. He addressed the media and answered the questions from the reporter.
During the press conference, a fan came with a question if he wants to follow any of the senior captains of India including former veterans MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, or current regular skipper Rohit Sharma. The 30-year-old came up with an amazing reply to this question by the journalist.
I can't go out there and be someone else - KL Rahul
"I can't go out there and be someone else. Then I won't be fair to myself, to the team, or to the game. I try and be myself and let the other players be themselves as they want," Rahul said in a press conference ahead of the series opener when asked if he had tried to follow the footsteps of the great MS Dhoni,” said Rahul in his answer.
Later on, he talked about the probable comparison of him with former captains like MS Dhoni, then he went very humble in replying about that.
"Jo naam aapne lie (the names that you've taken) I can't even compare myself with these guys (MSD), their numbers and achievement are far greater in terms of what they have done for the country, and I don't think any name could be taken in the same breath," the right-hander added later.
Furthermore, KL Rahul talked a bit about his experience under the captaincy of MS Dhoni and possible learnings he received from the legend.
"... And this is my second series as captain, and obviously, I have played under him and learned a lot from him as a player. As you have been playing for so many years, you will pick some good qualities from these guys," he concluded.
