October 3, Monday, did not end in a great way for Indian fans as the Indian cricket board confirmed the ruling out of Jasprit Bumrah from the 20-20 World Cup 2022 squad. The Indian speedster was ruled out of the three-match T20I series against South Africa, earlier and there were reports claiming later that the pacer might make it to Australia.

However, as the board put an end to speculations with the confirmed news, the pacer took it to his social media accounts to express his displeasure over the same. Writing on his social media accounts, Bumrah said that he’ll be “cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia”.

“I am gutted that I won’t be a part of the 20-20 World Cup this time, but thankful for the wishes, care and support I’ve received from my loved ones. As I recover, I’ll be cheering on the team through their campaign in Australia,” Bumrah tweeted on his account.

The Indian cricket board is yet to announce a replacement

The board, in the official statement, said that “the decision was taken after a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists”. “The Indian cricket board will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon,” the board said further in the statement.

The Indian lead pacer has played only five T20Is this year and has bagged four scalps to his name. Now that the 28-year-old has been ruled out, the Indian cricket board will have to come up with someone who can fill the void.

Mohammed Siraj might come in as the potential replacement for the lead pacer. Albeit the pacer has played only one T20I in 2022, Siraj can come in handy on bouncy Australian surfaces. However, it is up to the Indian cricket board to identify the right person who can compensate for Bumrah’s indubitable skills. The Men in Blue will open their account in the mega tournament against Pakistan on October 23 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
