The marquee clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 is likely to be rescheduled due to security concerns about the Hindu festival of Navratri. The match was originally scheduled for October 15, Sunday which also marks the start of the 9-day-long Hindu celebrations of the Navratri festival. Notably, it is the prime festival of Gujarat and the state will be brimming with celebrations overnight. As such, the security delegation from Pakistan have outlined possible security concerns to tackle which the match will now be rescheduled to October 14, Saturday as reported by RevSports.
"India vs Pakistan World Cup match date might be changed as security agencies have alerted the Indian Cricket Board to change the date because of the Navratri festival. A source said agencies have told us about it and we are in discussion soon will take a decision. It's not an easy task, there are so many things involved behind any match so will have to look after each and everything. Let's have a final discussion, then only can respond. But yes, if required to change the date keeping in mind security will do it if the situation comes," a source close to the developments revealed.
Ahmedabad will host four marquee games in the ODI World Cup 2023
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the world’s biggest stadium with a seating capacity of nearly one lakh will host four marquee games of the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. The opener between England and New Zealand, India vs Pakistan clash, another rivalry game between England and Australia, and finally the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 19. The World Cup will be hosted solely by India, spreading it to 10 Indian cities. The semifinals will be held in Mumbai and Kolkata.
Notably, the shift in dates for India vs Pakistan game is likely to create a logistical nightmare for travelling fans who have already made arrangements for their travel and stay at Ahmedabad. The city is already facing an accommodation crisis in mid-October with hotels completely booked and homestay options getting filled up as well.
