A few of these T20Is will also take place in Florida making it a tour of the West Indies and the USA. Notably, youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal who has found a place in the squad for the very first time also travelled with the skipper. A photo posted by Jaiswal included him and Rohit upon arrival in the West Indies. However, prior to the tour, there were doubts about Rohit Sharma’s future as the Indian Test team captain. But, discussions later led to the conclusion that Rohit would continue as the Test skipper at least for the two Tests in this tour that marks the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle.

India's tour of the West Indies kicks off on July 12

The uncertainty over Rohit Sharma’s captaincy stemmed from the disappointing loss at the hands of the mighty Australians in the World Test Championship 2021-23 final at the Oval, London. It marked India’s second consecutive loss in a WTC Final in two cycles. Following this, Rohit Sharma suggested implementing a best of three Tests rule to determine future winners of WTC cycles. "I would like to play the 3-Test match series for the WTC Final. We worked hard and we fought, but we played just 1 game. I think a 3-match series would be ideal in the next WTC cycle," Rohit said in the press conference after losing the final by 209 runs at the hands of the Australians.
