India's skipper Rohit Sharma is aware that the conditions in the World Test Championship Final against Australia will be challenging for openers. At The Oval, Rohit and his side will face a challenging task from the dukes' ball and a strong speed attack from the opponents, but the captain believes he is prepared for the challenge.
As such, ahead of the coveted final, Indian team players were asked to describe their skipper in one word. There were some great responses. Here are a few - Gill - Hitman, Pujara - Most talented player & he has been doing well as a captain, Ashwin - Class, Thakur - He is a funny guy, KS Bharat - Relax, Siraj - Puller, Shami – Hitman.
‘Test cricket is the ultimate format’ – Rohit Sharma
He recently discussed his opinion of the Test format in an interview. He said, “Test cricket is the ultimate format, the most challenging format & it will mean everything for us to win it". The Indian team's captain has spoken out about the difficulties his side would encounter in the forthcoming World Team Cup final versus Australia.
Rohit stated out his plans for his approach to batting in England during a discussion with Harsha Bhogle on the show An Afternoon with Test Cricket Legends with opposition captain Pat Cummins, New Zealand player Ross Taylor, and England's Ian Bell. “I think England is pretty challenging conditions for the batters,” Rohit said. “But as long as you're prepared to have a good grind you can have some success.”
Although Rohit Sharma enjoys the current challenge, he emphasised the difficulty of playing cricket in English conditions, where you are 'never in'. “As a batter, you know, one thing I realised batting last year, I think a year before that, it was that you're never in," he said. “The weather keeps changing a lot, so you've got to keep concentrating for longer periods of time. And that is the challenge of this format. You will get that intuition when it is your time to take the bowlers on. And that is when you should be ready for it. And, more importantly, you need to be there."
